IEC published in october 2006 the second edition of IEC 60601-1-8 - Medical electrical equipment - Part 1-8: General requirements for basic safety and essential performance - Collateral Standard: General requirements, tests and guidance for alarm systems in medical electrical equipment and medical electrical systems.
This new edition was made to align the standard with IEC 60601-1:2005, mainly the editorial changes (clause numbers, etc). This second edition also incorporates the first amendment of the fisrt edition. This is the first standard aligned with the new edition of the general standard.
IEC 60601-1-8 deals with alarm systems for medical electrical equipment, used as risk control measures for specific hazards. More information can be found in a previous post - link here.
